MIT DAT 2022 Exam Pattern
MIT DAT
MIT DAT (Design Aptitude Test) is a combination of online & pen-paper questions taken at assigned centres across India.
DAT written exam is based on the following parameters.
The weightage of each parameter is subject to change as per the discretion of the paper setting committee.
· Design Inclination questions based on visual clues & general awareness.
· Analytical questions based on scientific understanding (PCM).
· Logical Thinking skills
· Communication Skills – verbal & nonverbal abilities of expression.
· Personality Trends – test of individual stand point.
Format of DAT Examination:
DAT examination includes computer-based MCQ (objective) test, subjective test and offline drawing test.
Objective Exam – Computer Based Test
Questions would be appearing on the computer screen on a random basis with options shuffled for each candidate.
Candidates to respond on the computer screen.
Descriptive Exam – Computer Based Test
The subjective question will appear in a different section on the computer screen.
A text box will be enabled for each candidate to write their responses on the computer.
Drawing Exam – Offline Test
The drawing question will appear in a different section on the computer screen.
Candidates will be provided A4 size drawing sheets for this section
Candidates need to draw using Pens / Pencils / Colours on the sheets provided.
These answer sheets will be collected, scanned and uploaded for evaluation at the test centre.
MIT DAT 2022 Preparation Tips
- Think out of the Box: Be creative. If you draw really well, you have to focus more on the creativity aspect which comes from great imagination, visualization skills, observation, general awareness etc. Try not to copy the drawing of others, draw from your imagination every day.
- Practice in A4 size sheets: You should try to draw on A4 size sheets only as the size of the answer sheet is normally A4.
- Dive Deep into your Field: General Knowledge is not enough to crack the exam. You must read more newspapers, magazines, books, articles etc. in the field of your interest to know everything you can about designing etc.
- Learn to Draw Light first: You waste a lot of time if you draw, erase and repeat. So you should learn to draw light first and step by step outline the details if you’re satisfied with the outcome.
- Speed Sketching: Speed drawing is important as there are many questions but less time to execute. So everyday, draw on any topic as fast as you can.
- Fill in the colors: There are many questions which requires coloring and it takes a lot of time to do that. So you should develop your speed for coloring and sketching at the same time.

MIT Institute of Design 2022 Admission Process
Admission to MIT Institute of Design is purely on the basis of selection process opted by the Institute. MTID judges the he perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation of a candidate which is required for the programme. Thus, the admission process is divided into two phases given below.
Phase 1: MITID-DAT (Design Aptitude Test) : Design Aptitude Test commonly know as MIT DAT 2022 is conducted at various centres across the country. Test takers must carry drawing, cutting-pasting and coloring material (color pencil), crayons, stapler, scissors and glue stick, fevicol for DAT. Based on scores obtained in this test, qualified and shortlisted candidates will be called for studio test and personal interview (Second phase).
Phase 2: Studio Test and Personal Interview: After conducting Design Aptitude Test, Institute will conduct Studio Test and Personal Interview at MITID campus in Pune. The second phase of the admission procedure will consist of studio tests followed by personal interviews at Institute in Pune. Selected candidates must reach the university campus on the specified date and time for the second phase. They must carry their ID proof, hall ticket, and a copy of the DAT 2022 result.
Note : No separate call letters will be sent to the shortlisted candidates. All the candidates selected and called for the second phase are required to attend the studio tests and interview, which shall further complete the process of selection.
